We are thrilled to announce that Marcia Ann Gillespie will be the guest speaker at Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin’s Share Our Vision fall luncheons to be held in Milwaukee on Wednesday October 17, 2007 and NEW THIS YEAR: in Madison on October 18, 2007. Ms. Gillespie is a trailblazer in the magazine industry, a leader in the women’s movement and a champion of gender and racial justice. A passionate supporter of reproductive rights, she currently serves on Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Board of Advocates and served on their Board of Directors from 2000-2006.
Ms. Gillespie has served as editor-in-chief of two of the nation’s most important women’s magazines: Essence and Ms. She was named editor of Essence when she was only 26 years of age and transformed the then fledgling publication into one of the fastest growing women’s magazines in the nation and a trusted source of inspiration, information and affirmation for millions of African American women. At Ms., Gillespie priorities were “moving the discussion of feminism forward” and “keeping it real with readers.” Under her leadership Ms. reached a more diverse readership, attracting increasing numbers of younger women to the fold.
A provocative writer and thinker and a rousing public speaker, Ms. Gillespie brings both wit and wisdom to her talks. Hers has been a consistent eloquent voice affirming the human potential for good, challenging inequality, pushing herself and others to hope, dare and strive for a better world. We hope we will see you at this exciting event
